I've been writing poems for the web awhile, a lot of these poems are practice. I take on character voices at times, like the famous old archy and mehitabel poems by Don Marquis.
Only, my main voice is a left-handed, creative hearing dog who writes a lot of parodies of famous poems, a few not-so-famous poems by famous writers, as well as original haiku.
I also write longer poetry on a variety of subjects. I like image and humor, but also serious poems. I have not yet submitted many poems to be published. One I did get published online, is now offline; I found out this morning, so I put up my copy of "Astronomical Rabbit."
I have also translated ASL poetry: the Snare of the Arrow, and I am interested in doing so again.
I have so many projects waiting on the backburner while I complete my thesis.
1) a book of The pup's haikus series and a few of his longer poems, focusing on his life as a hearing dog. I suppose it'd be best downloaded as an e-book from Amazon or something, but I've always wanted to do a picture book. I also need to submit more work to be published.
2) I've also been working on creative nonfiction about my dog's life as a pup-- many short nonfiction short stories about different experiences. Those are written more like Miss Tea. I want to finish enough to fill a book, then publish. I might put in some fictional stories and just label the whole as fiction, even though my stories have been written very carefully to be true. When you can't lie at all, you have to learn how to tell stories well from what you have. It's a great challenge, I love writing nonfiction stories.
3) My current thesis is an animal-based fantasy based in DC, which definitely has the Deaf Eye. It's hard to describe but we all know Deaf people are very sharp observers of what other people overlook. I have many other novel ideas which are either barely begun or still waiting. I don't know if I will ever write everything I want to write about-- and I will probably not write them as I first thought I would-- but I will do my best.
4) I've considered doing vlogs of my ASL poetry translations, but I find it awkward to sign to my computer. The webcam I have doesn't record me fast enough, and it's not poetry if you sign slow and flat. Eventually this issue will be solved.
